Huts, pubs & hotels on Hochkar mountain

Our cosily furnished, family-run hotel in the centre of the skiing region is a wonderful place to relax. Comfortable rooms, all with bathroom or shower/WC, phone and TV – an infrared cabin, sun terrace and a sports shop with ski rental and service. Pure skiing pleasure from early December to late April right on our doorstep!

Naturally, not only the residents of our hotel are welcome to enjoy regional specialities such as trout from the Ybbs valley in our restaurant! Why not round off your day of skiing in the relaxed atmosphere of our bar!

Geischlägerhaus with its splendid panoramic views (sun terrace!) is situated at an altitude of 1,770m which makes it the highest situated hotel in the Alpine Foreland. You can reach it either by taking the detachable 4-seater chairlift Hochkar-Vorgipfel or the marked hiking trails from Hochkar Valley Station. Starting out at the Geischlägerhaus, a 20-minute hike will take you up to the summit of Hochkar Mountain.

The Geischlägerhaus is a self-service restaurant (no overnight stays possible) open in winter (daily) and in summer (from mid-June to mid-October daily except Friday and only in good weather).

Nestled in the Draxlerloch, the Karhütte is sheltered from the wind, which makes it the perfect place to stop for a rest and soak up the sun (deckchairs available). At the rustic ski cabin, Heli serves simple dishes typical of mountain huts, for instance, the very famous Kasspatzn.

By advance reservation, traditional gemütliche mountain hut evenings can be arranged for groups.

Step out of your room and onto the slope – this is indeed possible at the cosily furnished guesthouse at an altitude of 1,480m! 21 rooms (many with balcony) with shower and WC, telephone and SAT TV are available to make your Hochkar holiday complete.

A generously laid out sun terrace invites guests to relax and soak up the sun, in summer and in winter too!

In time for the winter season, work is currently underway to create a new spa area for the guests of Hochkarhof!

Thanks to its sunny location right next to the skiing slopes, the Schutzhaus is the perfect place to take a break from skiing in the typical cosy atmosphere of a mountain hut.

At Schutzhaus Hochkar, Family Esletzbichler, the tenants, will treat you to local cuisine and venison specialities all the year round. The large sun terrace is ideal for relaxing.

And for a genuine mountain experience, there’s even a mattress camp for 30 people!

Tip: In the summer, you can rent mountaineering equipment for the Heli-Kraft fixed-rope route! By the way, the landlord is a certified cave guide who is able to make Hockar Cave an exciting experience for the whole family!

Family Blaimauer’s guesthouse is situated right next to the valley station of the Hochkarbahn at the centre of the skiing region.

The comfortably furnished guesthouse has 300 seats, which makes it ideal for groups.

This summer, the former Syki Schirm was transformed into the new rustic Latschen-Alm!

Set right by the slope, the new Latschen-Alm has a very large sun terrace with a terrific view!

With lots of old timber and an eye for detail, Latschen-Alm will be offering pure après-ski fun this coming winter season! 

The après-ski bar on Hochkar Mountain is located by the lower car park next to the ski school site.

JoSchi Bar is the place to go when you really want to party – whether award ceremonies for company races, wild go-go girls or live acts.

JoSchi Bar offers a delicious range of light and main meals – from pizza to spare ribs!

At Sportpension Hochkar, you can enjoy your holiday without having to start up your car every day. In the middle of where everything is happening, but sunny and peaceful at the same time! T

he cosy guesthouse is right in the middle of the Hochkar skiing and hiking region and offers its guests spacious rooms with shower/WC/SAT TV/radio, sauna, ski workshop and a drying room for ski boots and clothing.

Fredl, a genuine Hochkar veteran, has lots of exciting and funny stories about the olden days on Hochkar which will make your holiday feel far too short.

Its 22 rooms with shower, WC and SAT TV are particularly well suited for groups, schools and organisations and enable direct access to pure skiing pleasure!

In summer, the Almgasthof is also at the centre of the hiking area and only a 20 minute walk from the “Heli-Kraft-Klettersteig” (fixed rope route). Fredl is also a certified cave guide and would be delighted to take your whole family on an exciting discovery tour of the Hochkar Cave (only in summer).

Schulschiheim Hochkar is also situated at the centre of the skiing area and is the perfect choice for school skiing courses, winter sports weeks and also for clubs, organisations and groups.

235 beds in 65 rooms, lecture room, lounges, ski room and ski workshops, sauna, steam chamber, solarium and massage room are available for its guests.

Schulschiheim Hochkar has a wide range of other facilities too – beyond skiing or snowboarding: 2 bowling alleys, table tennis, gym, fitness centre, four-purpose hall for hand-, basket-, volley- and football, climbing walls, outdoor sports facility with 2 tennis courts, 1 artificial turf court for basket- and volleyball, athletic sports facility, climbing wall and its own high ropes course.

This centre for altitude training is ideal for an action-packed week of sports and has already become a very popular training centre for Austrian and international sports associations!
